Tom Friedman knows more about relative health risks than Those Principled Europeans, and if the Europeans are going to be uniformly militarily weak, why not play up those with true moral stature, like Vaclav Havel? Maybe Peggy Noonan should try and make that a focus of a future article, not just an aside.
