The DC Tree lighting, scheduled for 5:00 on the Ellipse looked like a hassle (plus I was pretty busy at work, and then I wanted to make a phone call), so I waited until 7:00 to leave the office.
Dropped off my bag at the hotel, laced my sneakers and headed out. By 7:30, the crowds had left (I guess THIS city DOES sleep), but I got a chance to wander around the Ellipse. A Yule log, lotso model trains, and a Nativity set (the Angel's banner was in Latin), and small, nearly identical trees from all the states and territories surrounded the main tree, which was in blue lights. On the way back, I heard the bells in the Old Post Office. It was too warm for long pants and long sleeves, and the Hash House Harriers looked pretty ragged. Caught some of Meet the Parents on TV (I had seen it in the movies; it was pretty funny). My own father was MUCH better behaved.
